Avril Lavigne Says: I favor old-fashioned romance: The Canadian singer is preparing to release her fourth studio album which she admits will once again be inspired by events in her life. The 26-year-old recently divorced Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley and is currently dating The Hills star Brody Jenner.

She has confessed that despite her punk image, she is attracted to men who are polite and have good manners "I like a classy man, a gentleman who opens the door and gives flowers and always puts the lady first. I'm a little old-fashioned like that," she said in an interview with Maxim.

Avril burst on to the music scene at 17 with her song Complicated which enjoyed chart success around the world. She credits her Canadian upbringing as the main factor behind her success and the fact she achieved such longevity in a notoriously fickle business. Avril insists she would rather spend time at home with her friends than go out partying until the early hours.

“The only time I really ever get photographed is if I decide to go out with my friends to a bar or club, so... it kind of looks like I do that more than I do. The majority of the time I stay in,” she explained. "I got here on my own. I came from a small town and grew up in a regular home. “I know what I've worked hard for. I've seen a lot of people who have gone a little crazy and who are really into the Hollywood scene. I don't really like to hang out with people like that.”
