Avril Lavigne top in Canadian Chart: The debut week for Avril Lavigne’s 4th album, Goodbye Lullaby, saw it launch to the #1 spot on HMV Canada’s CD sale chart.

The singer song-writer just completed an international promotion in Asia and Europe, and has been hitting the airwaves in the U.S. on shows that included “The View”, “The Tonight Show”, and “Jimmy Kimmel Live”.

The album has also climbed and topped charts internationally on iTunes, including in Japan – the first stop the singer made on her promotion tour – where the the deluxe edition reached #1 on the Japanese iTunes chart.

Lavigne began the trip to Japan on January 23, performed at a number of venues including the NHK Music Japan television show – where she sang “What The Hell” and “Girlfriend”. Avril also took part in a variety of photo shoots, including one where “DAM” Magazine presented her with a ‘Hello Kitty‘ skateboard (pictured above), before flying out to her next country tour on January 28.

The singer expressed condolences for her Japanese fans immediately after the March 11 earthquake, posting “My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Japan”…this is so sad :( “.

This past Monday she added, “Japan I love you. Hang in there. Sending you my love and prayers” and has twice retweeted links and information for texting donations to the Red Cross relief for Japan [Txt REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation].

During this tour, Lavigne has ramped up her use of social media to stay connected with fans. In addition to her Twitter account, the singer has posted videos to her Facebook fan page as well as to a new domain: WTH.TV, that currently redirects to a page on her official website.
